This collaborative project will involve not only the Georges Friedel Laboratory, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/mateis.insa-lyon.fr\/\">MATEIS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/pimm.artsetmetiers.fr\/\">PIMM<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cea.fr\/\">CEA<\/a>. Here is the abstract:  <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing is gaining increasing importance in the aerospace and automotive sectors for the fabrication of complex metallic parts. Although aluminum alloys exhibit high specific strength, certain grades remain highly susceptible to hot cracking and pose challenges for LPBF manufacturing. The &#8220;Design of Aluminum Lightweight Alloys and In-situ monitoring of Laser Additive MAnufacturing&#8221; (DALAILAMA) project aims to develop an aluminum alloy optimized for LPBF to address these issues. It pursues three main objectives: reducing cracking, achieving a homogeneous microstructure, and balancing strength and ductility. A new alloy will be designed to minimize cracking risk, with a homogeneous and controlled microstructure, enabling an optimal balance between strength and ductility. Instrumented LPBF manufacturing tests with model alloys will enable assessment of melt pool stability and spatter emission rate.
