The Georges Friedel Laboratory is a Joint Research Unit of the CNRS (UMR 5307) and is part of the Institute of Engineering Sciences and Systems (INSIS). Located at Mines Saint-Étienne and supported by both supervisory bodies (Mines Saint-Étienne and CNRS), the laboratory brings together the full potential of Mines Saint-Étienne in the fields of materials, mechanics, and processes.

The LGF is an academic research stakeholder, with a strong partnership with industry, positioning itself as one of the major players in addressing the following challenges:

  • sustainability and energy efficiency of components and the factory;
  • from grain to factory / from material to component.

The LGF is engaged with local academic partners in structuring networks such as LABEX MANUTECH-SISE and EUR MANUTECH-SLEIGHT; at the national level through participation in numerous Research Groups (CNRS GDR) and Research Federations (INGELYSE, HYDROGENE); and it contributes to major societal projects at national (recovery plan) and international levels on themes such as decarbonised energy, hydrogen, and, more broadly, the transition of industry towards digital technologies with innovative materials and processes…
