The experimental activity developed around the control of composite material processing covers several scales, ranging from the study of single fibers to the production of complex parts by infusion. A strong dialogue between these experimental results and the numerical simulation work carried out by the MPE team enables an in-depth interpretation of the physical phenomena involved.
The laboratory is equipped with composite material processing and forming equipment: a pilot device for manufacturing model structures (laboratory scale) by resin injection/infusion as well as a heated platen press for prepregs. It is also equipped with model experimental benches allowing in situ monitoring of resin advancement within the reinforcement: transverse/in-plane permeability bench and fluid front characterization. These resources are used in the context of research conducted on both synthetic reinforcement composites (carbon fiber or glass fiber) and biocomposites (based on flax fiber, for example).
Additionally, a temperature and humidity conditioning platform enables the reproduction of extreme variations, for example for aeronautical parts subjected to model flight cycles.
