David Piot appointed head of the French delegation for the next plenary meeting of the ISO Technical Committee for Light metals and their alloys

David Piot, associate professor within the PMM team, will be the head of the French delegation at the next plenary meeting of the ISO Technical Committee for Light metals and their alloys, aluminum, magnesium, titanium (ISO TC79) and its subcommittees (Methods of analysis, surface treatments, ingots, magnesium alloys for casting and wrought alloys, aluminum alloys for casting, wrought aluminum alloys, symbolization, titanium alloys, aluminous ores) which will be held from October 20 to 23, 2026, in Brussels at the European Aluminium Association premises and via videoconference.
This contributes to the laboratory’s activities, and notably its “Resources, Critical Materials and Sovereignty” challenge, in the field of SDG 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development) but also SDG 9, 12 and 13.
The update of the Committee’s “business plan” will be debated during this meeting. France’s main objective is to improve the consideration of the criticality of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloys, and their environmental impacts—particularly energy-related—associated with their extraction, reduction, processing… and above all to facilitate their recycling through standardization. Recycling is a major lever for addressing all these issues and offers a significant potential contribution from the Committee to the achievement of SDGs 12 and 13.
Congratulations!
